At last said the goldfish to the bowl

What is it they say.......never assume, it makes an ass of you and me.....

At least in this case it makes an ass of me. Fortunately you are saved since it was I that assumed that the internet was in fact going to be so readily available in Greece, as I had done in Italy. How foolish was I. Yes, to the south amongst the sprawling shades of white of Athens the services are plentiful, the internet connections free - per se, add in a cup of coffee something particularly sweet and you have perhaps not free but quite enjoyable nonetheless whilst a connection holds and until you feel like you are pushing the boundaries of the idea of 'free'.

However, all is never as it seems and the further north you go, the further the internet becomes a distant notion of the modern world and the wheel is about as modernist as it gets.....providing it isn't powered by petrol in this particular instance, but i'll come back to that in due course.

Enough of the minor playful whine. I am going to attempt to give reflections of what has been since I last had the opportunity to write here. The bonus for you all hopefully is that there will be pictures, lots of them in fact. So when you tire and bore of reading, there is always plenty to see.

Some of the witterings will be in the present tense as that is how I wrote them at the time, fully expectant of the internet being available. So rather than change them, i'll leave them as they are.

For those that wondered about the tyre delamination in Greece whilst sat contently at 50mph counting change for the upcoming toll booth - a picture tells a thousand tales....

Currently I am awaiting parts from England to repair the rear brake cylinder which has failed. Rather coincidentally happening the minute I arrivied here in Altinkum to visit one of Mums best friends that she made in Turkey, Pat. I am extremely appreciative of the hospitality and kindness that Pat has shown me since arriving. Together with her help in contacting another of Mums friends, Katie, whose help and assistance was invaluable in Armutalan and for which I will always be grateful. I do feel I am encroaching somewhat on Pats hospitality, and we've joked that this is one of Mums ways of ensuring I spend time in one place in Turkey to see how it is to live here. Altinkum also of course also being the very first place Mum visited in Turkey and began her love affair of this land, it's people and their culture.

There are other 'friends' of Mums I would like to thank back in England. I say like to. Since I had hoped to have been able to. But seeing as there is nothing to thank them for i'll simply say this. Unlike Mum, I have nothing to feel indebted towards or to doth my cap for. I sincerely hope your children get to meet more people like Mum during their formative years, then hopefully they will have greater opportunity to learn how not to only be images of their parents and be all the better for it. If that offends you, then multiply your offence ten fold and you will still not be within the bounds of mine. Perhaps you could try taking a look in the mirror and asking yourselves what needs to change. You have my number, feel free.

For the time being I won't say more than that, but will in due course. The below was taken on Tuesday 3rd August after several hours of headless chicken running otherwise known as Turkish passport and customs control at the border with Greece. Fortunately for me they seemed unable to comprehend the words bell end when added to the end of a sentence with a smile after being told yet another new requirement and desk/booth/office to attend. Who knows, maybe they thought it was a slang for thank you and are now using it with all English speaking arrivals.....

I hope each of you are well and life is treating you all kindly. Now to get the blog back on track and to finally return to clogging it's pages and allow you all to be part of Mums travels as I had originally hoped.
